The average full time job clocks in at around 40 hours per week. For most of us, we seek the path to financial freedom by investing in ourselves and starting our own business. The reality is that most business owners and CEO’s work up to 70 hours a week, usually averaging closer to 50.
So although they may be earning more, they are spending an awful lot more time working at their craft. This of course, isn’t necessarily an issue if you love what you do. So when thinking about how much you work, we should ask our selves. What do I want to spend most of my time doing, and how can I make a living from it?
How Many Hours A Week Do You Want To Work?
You won’t work a minute of your life if you are following your passion. But if work is a means to an end, that ‘end’ being money. Then you must be aware of the concept of trading your time for money. For example, if you work as a personal trainer, you set an hourly rate for yourself. You can therefore only earn as much as you are willing to work. Of course this is limited by how many hours we each have available a day.
This is where scaleable business comes into play. If your business was selling online fitness classes, this no longer requires you to exchange your time for money. Instead, you can now serve an endless pool of clients. The only time used is that to produce the digital product they are purchasing.
But again, if your passion is 1on1 training. Then doing 60 Hours a week of PT is not going to feel like work. Its just important to make sure you clearly identify your worth, whist must be determined by you! If you don’t determine your wealth, someone else will do it for you.
How Many Hours Do You Think You Need To Work?
We are all familiar with the idea of working smarter rather than working harder. But don’t ever let this fool you into thinking that hard work doesn’t come into it. People will try to sell you on this dream where you can sit at home and earn thousands by simply clicking your mouse a few times.
This is very rarely a reality. Please don’t think that I’m trying to put a dampener on your dreams, but to think that it is achievable without hard work is just you kidding yourself. I’d go as far as to say, if you aren’t willing to work hard for it, you probably don’t want it as much as you think.
So maybe I haven’t truly answered the question of how you can work less and earn more. But hopefully, I’ve given you some food for thought about what ‘work’ really means to you.
